Before you install any Iron Horse Productions pack, please check the following:

1. Game version and platform
  • You are using Train Simulator Classic on PC (Steam version recommended).
  • Your game is updated and can run the default routes without issues.

2. Required base routes and DLC
  • Many routes, locomotives and wagons require specific base routes or DLC from Steam.
  • Check the product page in the Shop or on the TSC overview pages to confirm you own the requirements.

3. Free disk space and backups
  • Ensure you have enough free disk space on the drive where Railworks is installed.
  • Consider making a backup of your Railworks folder before installing lots of new content.

4. Antivirus and security software
  • Sometimes antivirus tools block zip files or installers. If needed, temporarily allow the file, then scan it once extracted.
Iron Horse Productions packs are delivered as standard Train Simulator Classic formats:
  • .rwp / .rpk package files to install with the official Utilities.exe tool.
  • Zip files for manual install, where you copy folders into your Railworks directory.
  • Occasionally a simple installer that asks for your Railworks folder.
The default Steam path for Train Simulator Classic is usually:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks
If you installed Steam to a different drive, your Railworks folder will be in the equivalent location on that drive.
Install Routes
Install Routes (.rwp / .rpk)
  1. Locate the .rwp or .rpk file you downloaded.
  2. Open your Railworks folder and run Utilities.exe.
  3. Go to the Package Manager tab.
  4. Click Install and browse to your .rwp / .rpk file.
  5. Wait for the install to complete, then close Utilities.

Install Routes (manual zip)
  1. Extract the zip file.
  2. Copy the extracted Content folder into your main Railworks folder.
  3. When asked, choose Merge / Replace existing folders (this does not delete your other content).
Install Locomotives
Install Locomotives (.rwp / .rpk)
  1. Open Utilities.exe from your Railworks folder.
  2. Use the Package Manager to install the .rwp / .rpk file.
  3. Once done, the new locomotive files are added under Assets.

Install Locomotives (manual zip)
  1. Extract the zip file.
  2. Copy the extracted Assets folder into your Railworks directory.
  3. Allow Windows to Merge / Replace folders when prompted.
Install Wagons & Packs
Install Wagons & Rolling Stock Packs
  1. Check the readme or product page for any required base routes or dependencies.
  2. Install the .rwp / .rpk file via Utilities.exe, or copy the provided Assets and/or Content folders into Railworks as instructed.
  3. Merge folders when prompted so existing content is kept.

After installing
  • Start Train Simulator Classic.
  • Use the Quick Drive or Scenario menu to test your new wagons and consists.
Once your add-ons are installed, use these checks inside Train Simulator Classic:

Finding routes
  • From the main menu, go to Standard or Career scenarios.
  • Sort or filter by route name to look for the new Iron Horse Productions route.
  • If provided, use included scenarios to confirm the route is working.

Finding locomotives and wagons
  • Open Quick Drive or the scenario editor.
  • Look under the relevant country or developer name (for example, South Africa or Iron Horse Productions) for new stock.
  • Ensure you tick required providers / products in the scenario editor asset list.

Clear cache (if content does not appear)
  • From the TS Classic launcher, click Tools then Clear Cache.
  • Restart the game and check again for the new content.
Q: I see missing assets or ‘broken consists’ warnings.
A: This usually means a required base route or wagon pack is not installed. Check the product requirements on the TSC Routes Overview, Locomotives Overview, or Wagons Overview, and make sure you own and have installed each one.

Q: Where do I find my download after purchase?
A: After you complete a purchase in the Shop, your download link is shown on the confirmation page and in the email sent to you. Check your spam or junk folder if you cannot see the email.

Q: Can I re-download my purchase later?
A: Yes. As long as your order is still in the system, you can usually re-download. If you have any trouble, email your name and order number to info@ironhorseproductions.co.za and Gert will help you restore access.

Q: I get an error message when loading a route.
A: Note the exact wording of the error and which route or scenario you tried to load. Then check that all required assets are installed and that you ran the installer or copied files to the correct Railworks folder. If it still fails, send a screenshot of the error and your route name to support for a closer look.

Q: How will my support email be handled?
A: Your details are used only to respond to your support request. For full details, please see the Privacy & Terms page.
StepWhat to do / Check
1. Confirm game and route requirementsOpen the product page in the Shop or TSC overview and confirm you own and have installed all required base routes and DLC.
2. Verify install locationCheck that files were installed to the correct Railworks folder (Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks) and not to a temporary or wrong directory.
3. Re-run the installer or copy files againIf in doubt, run the .rwp/.rpk installer again via Utilities.exe or recopy the Assets/Content folders from the zip, allowing files to merge.
4. Clear TS Classic cacheFrom the TS Classic launcher, use Tools > Clear Cache, then restart the game and try loading the route or stock again.
5. Test with a simple scenarioCreate or load a basic scenario using only the new route or locomotive to see if the issue is related to other third-party content.
6. Collect info for supportTake screenshots of any error messages and note the exact route, scenario and consist used. Include this when emailing support.
