I am Gert, the person behind Iron Horse Productions Railworks. I have been a rail enthusiast for as long as I can remember, with a special passion for classic steam, heavy freight, and the unique character of South African Railways.
What started as tweaking scenarios for my own enjoyment slowly turned into building full routes, rolling stock, and complete packs for Train Simulator Classic. I wanted to capture the atmosphere of real railroading – the gradients, the sounds, the long freights working hard – and share that experience with other simmers who care about the same details.
Over the years I have moved from experimenting with small test routes to creating large, fully realized worlds: rugged mountain passes, dusty Wild West branches, and modern electrified main lines. Every project is built with the same goal in mind: to give you believable operations and memorable runs, not just pretty screenshots.
Iron Horse Productions exists to give Train Simulator Classic players routes and rolling stock that feel alive on the rails. That means believable gradients and curves, carefully tuned physics, and scenery that supports performance instead of killing your frame rate.
My priorities are:
- Operational realism – routes and trains that behave like their real-world counterparts wherever possible.
- Solid performance – optimized assets and smart use of detail so you spend more time driving and less time fighting stutters.
- Honest, community-friendly pricing – fair prices, with selected freeware releases alongside payware packs.
- Clear requirements – transparent notes on what base routes or DLC you need before you buy.
Whether you enjoy narrow gauge, heavy main line operations, or fictional “what if” routes, the goal is the same: to give you add-ons that respect your time, your hardware, and your passion for trains.
Over time, Iron Horse Productions has grown into a small but focused catalogue of Train Simulator Classic content. Below are some of the flagship routes and projects that define what this studio is about.
Each project is built to be driven hard: long grades, busy yards, demanding consists, and scenarios that reward learning the route.
Iron Horse Productions 3D locomotive models are built around the personalities of the real engines: from hard-working SAR steam like the Class 19D to modern Class 15F locomotives.
Wagon and coach packs are designed to make your consists look and feel right, especially for South African-inspired operations.
Grain wagons, mixed freight, these models are coming soon to Train Simulator Classic specially for South African content.
If you want to see how these packs fit together, explore the dedicated overview pages for locomotives and wagons. They show the main features, included variants, and suggested routes.
Most projects start in 3D and texture tools, where base meshes are built for locomotives, wagons, and key scenery before being refined and exported into Train Simulator Classic.
From there, the focus shifts to in-game testing: checking clearances, camera views, and how everything sits in the world.
Route building is done in layers: first the track, gradients, and signalling, then scenery passes for towns, industries, and landmarks.
Multiple test runs are used to refine driving sightlines, scenario ideas, and performance-heavy areas before a route is released.
Every pack goes through a checklist for:
- Basic bug passes and visual glitches.
- Performance on mid-range hardware.
- Clear documentation of requirements and installation notes.
Updates are released where needed to fix issues or incorporate community feedback.
The goal is simple: content that installs cleanly, drives well, and stands up to repeated use in your timetable runs and scenarios.
Iron Horse Productions is a one-person studio, which means you are talking directly to the creator when you get in touch.
If you run into installation issues, missing assets, or have suggestions for improvements, you can always reach me via email. I read every message and try to respond as quickly as possible.
Player feedback has shaped updates, new scenarios, and even decisions about which regions or eras to explore next.
